Shaina was AMAZING and exactly who I needed for my second birth. She was thorough at our prenatal appointment, and she answered any questions my husband and I had. She also followed up with an email with lots of information and resources.
When I was very past my due date and feeling anxious and depressed, Shaina was extremely supportive and patient. There were a few times when I thought I was in labor, and she was always available and ready to be there. When I finally went into labor, it was very quick, and Shaina met us at the hospital just as we arrived. She reminded me to breath through the contractions and reassured me that what I was feeling was normal. I was having excruciating back labor and Shaina assisted with counter pressure, and it did help, but I was in so much pain that I opted for an epidural. She was supportive and made sure that I was doing what I wanted so that I was still able to feel empowered with my birth. I was able to keep the epidural doseage low enough to still feel the contractions and know when to push, and I was able to give birth on my side to help avoid tearing as much as I had with my first birth. When I was pushing and I felt like I was doing it wrong, and she talked me through what to do, and I pushed my daughter out in 20 min. The pictures that she took during the labor and afterwards will be treasured forever.
At the postpardum visit, she found resources and information on nursing for me because I was having a really hard time, and I was really worried about plugged ducts turning into mastitus. I was able to figure it out, and she checked up on me to make sure things were improving.
She provided so many resources that I will be able to use later, and I am so glad that I was able to have her support for this pregnancy and birth. My experience with labor, delivery, and recovery has been 1000x better than my first birth experience, and Shaina was a big part of that. Thank you so much, Shaina!!
Shaina is amazing! She has such an encouraging presence and calming voice. She gives the best hand massages as well! She is very knowledgable and provides helpful resources prior to birth and post partum. Shaina is very relaxed and will encourage you to do what feels best for you but at the same time isn't afraid to make firm but gentle suggestions to try. She will definitely be your advocate! Anything you need, Shaina has got you taken care of! It was wonderful to have her be part of my first natural birth experience. She rocks!
Shaina was wonderful to work with! I knew right away that she was the perfect doula for me. She was confident and caring. Shaina helped during my pregnancy by answering any questions I had and providing resources for postpartum. She made sure that she understood my birth plan and was able to answer any questions I had about the process. During labor, she was an invaluable asset. I wanted to have an unmedicated childbirth and I can honestly say I don't think I would have been able to make it through without her. She helped with pain management and positions to move through the labor process quicker. Postpartum, she checked in on us and helped us out by making dinner. I can't say enough good things about Shaina!
Shaina was absolutely amazing! I can't recommend her enough. This was my first baby and honestly didn't know what he heck I needed or wanted out of a dula. Shaina walked us threw what kind of things we might want for our birth, what sort of support we wanted, how we handled certain situations, what my Husband and I's relationship was like, etc. I came out of the interview feeling like Shaina had taken the time to get to know my Husband and I, plus she was friendly and had a similar great sense of humor so that helped.
During my pregnancy Shaina made it clear that I could contact her at any point if I ever needed anything. When I did she responded promptly and thoughtfully. If she checked in on me periodically, but I never felt annoyed or bothered. It was actually nice to get to vent a bit as I got closer to the end of my pregnancy. She was always supportive and understanding.
When the big day came, I had kept Shaina updated over the pervious few days. Things were consistently not happening despite my midwives best efforts. Then all of the sudden BAM things changed and changed dramatically (it ended up being a 6hr labor)! Shaina must have been surprised when I called her and asked her to come to the house, but she took it in stride and got there within the hour. I didn't realize it at the time but I must have been in transition-or close to it when she got to the house. She immediately timed some contractions and said it was time to go! I'm still convinced we would have had a car baby if she hadn't told us to leave right there. She was very insistent about not pushing in the car thank-goodness. Within an hour of arriving at our birth-center we had a baby!
Our postpartum meetings were exceedingly helpful, Shaina answered all the little random questions we had and suggested an excellent lactation consultant when we needed more help.
Im so glad I hired Shaina as our dula and recommend her highly!
We hired Shaina during my pregnancy and were SO pleased with her care. She was accessible, understanding, and helpful the entire time- before, during, and after birth. She was professional and made me feel really comfortable sharing such an intimate part of our lives. She was able to answer so many questions seeing as this was our first pregnancy and child. We birthed at a hospital with midwifery care. Shaina and the midwives worked really well together and listened to what I wanted and needed during the birth. They provided information, support, and so much love as my son was coming into the world. We don’t live close to family, so we don’t have a lot of help. Shaina was there by our side with whatever we needed until we were able to get our feet underneath us. She was delicate and discreet during the birth and through all my post partum care. If you are looking for a doula- I would recommend Shaina to all of my friends and family. Thank you again Shaina!!! My husband and I had the best experience with you!!
Shaina has always been professional, warm, communicative, and supportive. During our prenatal visits, she helped me discern what exactly was important to me for the birth. When I went into labor and had to go to the hospital instead of delivering at home, Shaina was with us for 18 hours. Having her there made all the difference - my husband was able to get some sleep and food, and I had constant support during our change of plans. She timed my contractions and reported them to the nurses, saving me the trouble. She made sure I was hydrated and always had a puke bag for me when I needed it. She was the encouragement I needed when things got tough, and somehow she always knew just what to say, because her words really clicked for me. My 23 hours of labor and 5 hours of pushing were doable because of the unyielding support I had from Shaina. We already know we want her with us when it's time to have our second baby!
We are so thankful for Shaina's presence during and after our second child's birth. From the time we met her and articulated our priorities for our birthing experience, we encountered nothing but gentle support. Since we had a failure to breastfeed with our first born child, Shaina encouraged us to connect with a lactation consultant prior to our second child's birth, and I largely credit our success breastfeeding him to her suggestions to seek help prior to his birth. During early labor, she assisted in helping me perform exercises to successfully flip my posterior-positioned baby. She was a non-anxious presence and made us feel empowered through every birthing stage. We would love to have her serve at another birth in the future. We would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone seeking a doula for their birth.
Shaina was just what we needed. She was extremely responsive when we were setting appointments and checking in on early labor. She met us with open arms at the birth center and hardly left our side through labor. Between contractions she made sure I was hydrated and eating to keep my strength. During contractions she had the perfect soothing techniques to match the intensity of contractions. She helped me get in and out of the birthing tub, restroom, bed, and on and off of the yoga ball. She worked with us from the beginning of our birth plan draft to following through, and making sure we kept as much of our wishes as we could through the labor process. If you’re looking for an incredible Doula who will meet you where you’re at and help you realize you realize your birth plan, look no further.
Shaina was an absolute joy to work with. Her calming presence was such an asset to our home birth. She is very accomodating and non-judgmental. She brought a light-hearted fun vibe to dealing with the early stages of active labor, yet is also very professional and detail-oriented in her approach. She made sure that all of us (mom, dad & baby) had exactly what we needed to make birth a truly magical experience. Plus, she was an absolute rock in helping me hold my body position for birth. Thank you Shaina, you made a beautiful moment even more spectacular.
As a birth partner, I would highly recommend employing Milla Blindauer as your Doula.
I am extremely thankful that she was there to support my wife and I during the birth of our son. This was our first child and the labor was very long and difficult. Milla stayed with us for over 36 hours - from home, to birth center, and finally to hospital. During the early stages she was caring and respectful, sharing a supportive ear to listen through our doubts and concerns. At the birth center her knowledge and experience shined as she guided us through many different active birthing positions and relaxation techniques. At the hospital Mila was our personal advocate, interfacing with the nurses and doctor in a way that built space for us to focus on the labor, and to process the different interventions that became neccessary. She has a lot of strength both mentally and physically, and her support allowed me to conserve my energy - I would not have endured the experience without her. She is hard working and reliable, and I can't imagine a better occupation for a person of her skills and character.
Thank you Milla!
I will never be able to fully express how thankful I am to have had Milla's support during my pregnancy/delivery of my first baby. Milla helped us craft our perfect birth plan and answered all of our questions as we navigated pregnancy and prepared for labor. She was encouraging and really boosted our confidence as we neared the due date. However, Milla really proved herlsef to be invaluable as my due date came and went. The perfect birth plan was unraveling before our eyes and it became a very emotional, stressful, and scary time. While Milla could not give me the birth that I dreamed of, she helped me to navigate and feel good about the birth my baby chose for me. We spent a lot of time together between weeks 40-42 of my pregnancy working through many induction methods which ended in a 48 hour labor filled with deviations from 'the plan'. Milla was always able to read me and provide just the right type of support - when I was scared she held my hand, when I needed to be distracted she joked with me/lightend the mood, when I needed to cry or vent she let me do so without judgment, when I was exhausted she helped find the strength to push through, when I needed to relax she was a source of tranquility, when I needed encouragement she gave it, and her physcal stregth helped support my body through a very long labor. And she did all of this while advocating for me constantly and making sure my husband was also rested/supported. And she did this for 48hours non-stop! Milla has this inner physical/mental strength and focus that she is able to tap into which is unlike anything I have seen before. This makes her an absolute asset to any birth team. I'm not going to lie, things got pretty crazy/stressful at times, but because of her, my husband and I were able to process the events with acceptance and keep our minds calm as we brought our beautiful baby into the world.
I was lucky enough to have Milla present during the birth of my son, Malcolm, on February 21st, 2019. My experience with Milla from the beginning, was extremely comfortable. She answered any and all questions of mine with informed care. I was made aware of what options and ideas she had to help cope with pain so that I could create a list to work from. She was also fabulous at supporting my fiancé in helping me through labor. She also somehow managed to capture photos of some of the best, most intimate moments from my sons birth, and I had no idea. What an amazing surprise that was!! The whole experience was so relaxed and lovely. Milla has been there for me to this day, two months after the birth of my son, for any further questions, or support I may need. I would 100% hire Milla as my Doula for any future births of mine, and will recommend her to any future mamas I know.
Milla was essential in helping me through my pregnancy. She is one of the most supportive and encouraging people, and has a wealth of information about pregnancy, labor, delivery, and babies. I was a very fearful pregnant woman, and I was able to find comfort and ease when I would talk through my fears with her. Whenever a question came up, she would explain things to me in terms that I would understand and was comfortable with (the last part was important, as I had circumstances that kept me from being able to hear certain things about labor and delivery without being overwhelmed with anxiety, and she listened to the things that I was afraid of and modified her language to fit my exact needs).
I live in a different country than Milla, so she wasn’t present for my birth in person, but I spoke with her when I went into labor, during labor, and after delivery, and felt like she was with me, even if she wasn’t physically there. I would recommend her to anyone seeking out a doula, and to those who don’t know that they need one!
This was (hopefully) not my last pregnancy, and I don't intend on going through a prengancy without her as one of my main support people, as well as the person guiding me through the process of preparing for labor and delivery.
Milla was a lifesaver! My daughter was born unexpectedly and very quickly! Milla was so supportive and helpful for me, especially when my labor kicked up so quickly and my husband barely made it for the birth. She has great relaxing techniques, was flexible, and most importantly is so caring. She helped me prepare for the birth and then was right by my side when nothing went as planned. Her genuine love for being a doula shines through and she helped me in ways I can never express.
